Day 23

I woke up fine, but slow as usual. However, once I got moving I felt weird and light headed for the first time in awhile. I remember making breakfast and feeling just really anxious. It went away while I ate, and I got in the shower and went to work. (took the pill in the morning as usual)

When I got to work, I was exhausted. I really felt like I was going to pass out this morning. I sat staring at my computer screen. I began to get anxious and panicky and started to do the routine I do when I get so anxious I leave. I made sure I had my xanax (though I knew I had my xanax), I called / emailed my father to see where he was, and I got a glass of water. I sometimes feel like caffeine would help and think about getting a soda before lunch instead of during, but I did not.

I never needed the xanax and this panicky feeling finally went away maybe 40 minutes after it started.

I ate lunch and was semi productive all afternoon. I stayed at work a little later than usual and came home.

I am pretty tired, but what else is new. I didn't go to the gym like I planned. I keep putting it off and off to "I will go tomorrow..." " I will go this weekend....", and so on. I see my psychologist tomorrow and she is going to ask if I went since she wanted me to try and go to break the negative pairing of nausea and the gym. But its impossible to go when I have absolutely no energy.

If anyone has any tips or experiences with this low energy please email me or post it. I have increase my caffeine a little, but I have not seen any positive effect from this. I just want to see if anyone else has had problems with energy and problems with motivating one self to exercise. Thanks!

Breakfast: 2 eggs, whole wheat bagel, green tea
Lunch: Ham and cheese on wheat, apple, cherry zero soda
Dinner: Left over raviolis and chicken, glass of wine
Snack: Banana, Naturals valley bar
Exercise: None

  1. Hi David - I know how much energy it takes to fight being tired! :)

I have three suggestions: 1. going to the gym 1st thing in the morning instead of the end of the day. 2. Getting a puppy or dog (as I did in July) he NEEDS a good run everyday so I have to take him out no matter what. Plus there's a lot of comfort there... and 3. "InVite" Vitamins are expensive, but their muti-vitamin for sports have a LOT of zoom in them. In any case you need B vitamins. http://www.invitehealth.com/browse.cfm/4,191.html

    You'll get there!

  2. David,
Pam's got some good suggestions. As I've said before, check your testosterone levels. I know you're young and you should have normal levels, but check to be sure. I'm 41 and I've felt some depression, exhaustion, etc for a while now. Effexor helped for the last year and a half, but when I went off the meds last year, my symptoms came back. So I decided to get my T-levels checked and mine was low for my age!!!!! Men with low T levels MAY get same symptoms as depression.
Just a thought... Let us know if you get it checked.

  3. I tried a multi vitamin for energy, but it had caffeine in it that made me anxious. I have heard about things with extra vitamin B that i was thinking about looking into.

Pam - Do yuo eat before going to the gym? I hate going to the gym in an empty stomach, thats why I enjoy going at night. I thought about switching my routine to morning, but thats once I break this nausea feeling i experience when I am there.

Todd - I am going to my Therapist MD who gave me the lexapro. She also has a copy of my blood work, so I will ask her if these tests were done. I know my Thyroid was checked, if thats similar. I am not too medical savvy. Did these low levels effect any physical activity as well like running or going to the gym. I feel sick as a dog at the gym; hence one of the reasons I stopped.

  4. Hi David - I normally do not eat before the gym, but if i need something in my stomach I have 1 cup of skim milk mixed with ovaltine. That takes the edge off for me. Pam :-)

Also: if you hate the gym so much, see if you can find a local "boot camp" They get you outside and make you do sit ups and pushups and run. It's also more communal and I like the fresh air...

  5. David, yes low testosterone can give you low energy, fatigue, etc. You have to ask your doctor to order the test. simple blood draw and do it first thing in the morning, that's when your t levels are highest (I think). So I'm sure your MD didn't order that test. Like I said, just one more thing to rule out. Let me know

  6. I asked my Psychiatrist (she has my lab work) if my Testosterone was recorded. It has not been. I have a regular doctors appointment at the end of the month and I am going to discuss this. I want to start exercising again and this may be a start. At least knowing everything is alright is a start.
